During the Festival dei Due Mondi Spoleto opens its doors to art in its broadest sense.
Two weeks of extraordinary shows, with more than 49 performances with opera, music, dance, theatre, several special events and art exhibitions. The 59th edition of the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi takes place from the 24th June to the 10th July under the artistic management of Giorgio Ferrara.
The kermesse is inaugurated on the 24th June with “The Marriage of Figaro” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, comedy for music in four acts by Lorenzo da Ponte, performed at the Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti, directed by Giorgio Ferrara, conducted by James Conlon with the scenes of Dante Ferretti e Francesca Lo Schiavo.

The famous conductor Antonio Pappano and pianist Stefano Bollani, together for the first time, with the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, will be the protagonists of closing concert on Sunday, July 10th. The program, which is very original and has a varied layout includes music by Schoenberg, Lehar and Gershwin. The Anglo-Italian conductor has been awarded the 5th edition of the Carla Fendi Foundation prize.
Another prominent artist in this year’s edition is Bob Wilson who is performing at Caio Melisso on the 7th and 8th July “Lecture or nothing” by John Cage with music by Arno Kraehahn.
In his dual role of director and musician, Tim Robbins will be on stage with the theatrical transposition of “1984” (30th June, 1st, 2nd, 3rd July) and a performance on “Commedia dell’Arte” with “Harlequino: on to freedom” (from the 6th to the 10th July). The same artist will perform with the “Tim Robbins & Friends” at Teatro Romano on the 26th June as singer and guitarist together with the musicians of the Rogues Gallery Band.
For the dance section of the festival, Eleonora Abbagnato will be the dancer in the “Carmen”, ballet in two acts by Amedeo Amodio, music by Georges Bizet, at the Teatro Romano (25th June), the Czech National Ballett with “Romeo e Giulietta” by Profof’ev (7th , 8th and 9th July) and theBatscheva Dance Company with the artistic direction of Ohad Naharin in “Decadance Spoleto” at Teatro Romano (1st , 2nd and 3rd July).
Among the most remarkable musical event of the Festival there will be the Italian concert conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini who will perform the “Vespro della Beata Vergine” by Claudio Monteverdi on the 9th July, organized thanks to the support of the Carla Fendi Foundation.
The Fiesole Music school will take care of the midday and evening concerts, while “Tre Risvegli” by Patrizia Cavalli, a performance of music and theatre will be on stage at Teatro Caio Melisso Carla Fendi area on the 26th June, under the direction of Mario Martone, with the actress Alba Rohrwacher and the music of the award winning composer Silvia Colasanti, played by Quartetto Guadagnini.
Last but not least, after the end of the Festival, on the 13th July, the great étoile Roberto Bolle for the first time in Spoleto, will be start his tour accompanied by some of the biggest names on the international dance scene.
